It’s that time of the year again ladies and gentlemen, time to start training for the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon 2011, which is scheduled to take place in Dublin on Monday June 6th at 3pm. Click here for more information on how to enter! While this event is strictly for ladies only, there’s no reason why the menfolk of the family can’t get involved too…
Not only can you help your beloved train by taking the strain and helping out more in the house to facilitate this, you can use this as an opportunity to get fit too! Sadly though you can’t join your Missus on race day, but you can cheer her on and provide moral support throughout!
Also, the menfolk can get involved by actively seeking sponsorship for the Offaly Branch of the DAI. The more the merrier! If you are one of our lady friends, but for whatever reason would prefer not to actively participate in the race, you can of course still help by raising sponsorship for those of us that are running, jogging or walking on the sixth of June!
Later this month you will be able to obtain sponsorship cards from members of the Offaly DAI committee, these should be returned to the Offaly DAI within one calendar month of the event. More info on that later…
How to obtain sponsorship?
We all have friends and neighbours, family and work colleagues, don’t we? In todays recessionary times it’s likely that we all feel awkward about asking people for sponsorship, after all everybodie’s at it, aren’t they?
- Well, how about asking for a mere €2.00 sponsorship per person? While this doesn’t sound like a great deal, we’re firmly of the belief that if you look after the pennies (or in this case €2.00’s) the pounds will look after themselves! Indeed most people will be only too willing to surrender such a small amount for a good cause and will often give more.
- Other tips on how to raise sponsorship money include respecting people’s right to say no. This may sound a little odd for someone who’s trying to raise cash for charity, but of course people do have that right and to be honest it truly is better to err on the side of caution here. Being pushy about raising sponsorship can do more harm than good and money is a sensitive issue at the best of times, isn’t it?
- One suggestion is to follow a friend of the Offaly DAI’s example and simply leave a sponsorship card on the table inside a small container in your staff canteen. This way there really is no pressure and people can be very generous, often dropping their small change into it anonymously…
